FireNes: Add NES Games To Firefox
When you’re in a hurry to waste time and don’t feel like browsing through different arcade sites, what should you do? How about installing your time wasters right into Firefox?
FireNes is an add-on for Firefox that will let you play over 2,500 NES games from within the browser. Now that’s a lot of time wasters. Once installed, you can access your new time wasters by going to Tools -> FireNes. You’ll see the list of games on your sidebar. Just double click on the title of your choice and the game will load in a small window.
Here’s how it looked when I was testing it:

Some games were a bit sluggish but that might be different depending on your computer. Controls are mapped to Z, X, and the arrow keys. There’s no search option so you’ll have to scroll down to find the game you want. FireNes works with Firefox 3.
If you’re having trouble finding the download link on the site, here it is.
For those of you who were wondering, I’m still using Win XP heh.

definitely gonna try this out, but I had a bad encounter with NES where it had come in with a Trojan had to spend two days to figure out a fix.

I’m ALWAYS in a hurry to waste time. This is a fantastic little tool, if such a thing can be called a “tool.” I wish I had the time to waste these days, but I’m sure I’ll find a way.

What is our obsession with old games? Granted, there are my faves on the NES like Mario Bros 3 and Bubble Bobble, but some of these games are ancient… like 20 years old!

I fond memories of playing games such as Double Dragon, so being able to play these through a very easy to set up emulator in the form of a Firefox plugin is great news - more tme of mine will be wasted! Cheers!

Nice. Although I am more inclined to just use a NES emulator to play the games. But this is certainly an interesting addon for firefox. I will definitely be giving it a try as I was a big ROM fanatic a few years ago!
