Apture: Enrich Your Site’s Content
Ask any site owner and they’ll tell you they’re always looking for ways to make their content more appealing. If you have a site of your own, it’s a safe bet to say you would love to turn your content into a multimedia experience for your visitors.
Apture will let you turn any text in your site into a multimedia experience. How? Apture lets site owners incorporate relevant media to their content. Put simply, you can select any text and have it show any text, video, image, or play audio, when a user’s mouse hovers over that text.
This means you can incorporate relevant media from Wikipedia, YouTube, Flickr, news stories, etc., to any part of your content.
Here’s a screenshot of their sample page:

See the colored text with icons? Those are parts of the content that will display relevant media on any mouse-over event. Your visitors can click inside any of the displayed media to load more related info without leaving your site.
Instead of providing a link to Wikipedia for the definition of a certain term, you can just have it display the definition so your user doesn’t have to leave your site. Lots of possibilities.
Apture is currently accepting registrations for their limited beta.

Since it is a limited beta, I’ve also signed up. But don’t you think it will look too hyperlink-ish for those who use Kontera on their blogs?

Looks like a decent service. Will it make your page slow loading? That is my only concern on this kind of services.

Kinda seems more like a gimmick than anything else. I guess it could be useful in some situations.

Nice application. This is very useful to make content more clean for the reader.

This is going to be fun. I love playing with apps..

This is an interesting idea, but like Haris says my concern would be that it looks a little too much like the ad popups you find on some sites - but once your readers realise what it is, I’m sure they’d find it useful and would be a great way of keeping them on your site.

It drives me nuts when things pop up like that. I would almost definitely stop going to a site if it added something like this, unless I really, really like the content.

Kaley - an interesting opinion…I may think twice about using things like this on my site if readers might react like that.

This sort of thing seems to be getting more and more popular. I recently ran across a program called Zemanta that is very similar. (url is zemanta.com for those interested)

It looks too much like sponsored advertising to me. I like the idea but it has already been spoilt by make money enthusiasts.

This is interesting but I think that it looks too much like Kontera. Unfortunately this makes the service look like a nuisance. I would think that this might make your site appear amateurish.

I am wondering how many links are they going to auto-convert my text within a single page for me? If it is 1-2 is fine. If too many will make my blog looks horrifying. Pardon me for saying this but I have yet to see a necessity for my blog to have this service, unless to say my blog is supposed to be really informative with lots of profound terminologies and names which my readers would require explanations and illustrations to know what are they.

I agree with “make money online” after seeing all the stupid popups in blogs you just go blind to them.

That is a very cool way to make your posts stand out. I have a website that I would like to show images or more information about product pricing and availability in the post. I’ll have to give this a try.
