Options: Excellent Free WordPress Theme
Here’s more proof that the best things in life are indeed free. From the creator of the popular Structure and Visionary themes, Justin Tadlock has released his newest theme and it’s a killer.
Options is a free magazine style WordPress Theme that looks and feels like a commercial theme. Out of the box, Options comes with Dark and Light stylesheets and a host of features. The home page consists of 5 sections or blocks and you can choose from 14 different options for each section.

The theme comes with easily customizable widget-ready sidebars, with a few pre-built widgets included.
For users needing help tweaking the theme, a support forum is available along with online documentation.
Here’s the official list of widgets that come with the theme.

- Tag cloud.
- Flickr photos.
- Recent posts.
- “Asides,” or sideblog.

Structure is a nice theme, but I’m not very impressed by options.
Options was too similar to one of Brian Gardner’s paid themes, and Justin had to change several elements of Options on request from Brian.

Geez that looks good Brown. You know, since my primary money maker is NOT AdSense, maybe I should say screw it to the whole black text on white background. It’s just not me!

Glad you’re back and blogging! This is by far the best free magazine style theme I’ve seen. Maybe when I get really tired of what I currently have, I’ll take a chance…haha!

That is a really nice theme, and free to boot! I have been looking at some of the “revolution” themes by Brian Gardner and really like them. But this theme is quite nice, not sure if it is as customizable and SEO friendly but the price is right. How do you think it would fare for a real estate site?

This is awsome.
I spent over two hours yesterday looking for a new theme for my local blog. I wanted a cool magazine type theme but the only one I really like was a premium theme. I decided to put it on hold for a bit. So tonight I’m surfing the web and find your blog about a new theme. I love it. I had actually (no BS) looked at anothe theme by Justin but it wasn’t quite right.

This looks like an awesome theme. I plan on doing an overhaul on my town’s local niche blog and have searched for the perfect theme. The one I keep coming back to is Options. Will test it out this week.

it really is hard to find a good wordpress theme these days. Especially one that looks as good as this one. The options theme does look very professional and by just seeing it for the first time I would assume that it costs money to get it. I guess things are changing…

I’ve started doing a little blogging on Active Rain, but haven’t gone as far as designing my own blog outside the community, but it looks very engaging. Finding the right content to fill this type of theme would be challenging but probably quite rewarding…. Good post!

As far as I know using a contrasting background for your Google Ads works best. i.e. contrast the ad background to the general background.

What about tag pages? I’m finding that alot of my traffic is coming from tag pages. I didn’t see any settings for true/false with regard to tag pages. Thx.

I would have to say as well - Great find. I used to love magazine style themes but I always have trouble editing pictures for it to look good with the theme.
Still its a great find as that magazine style theme really looks professionally made.
