Windows Vista SP1 Scheduled For Mid-March Release
Straight from the Windows Vista blog, Mike Nash from the Windows Product Management group at Microsoft has announced the release of Vista Service Pack 1 to manufacturing. The official release of Vista SP1 is set to be available through Windows Update and Microsoft’s download center in mid-March. Vista users who have chosen to receive updates automatically will get the upgrade in mid-April.
The reason for the March and April release is to give Microsoft more time to work with its hardware partners in identifying and fixing problems with driver installations that have been flagged as problematic during the Vista SP1 beta testing. The march release will support 5 languages: English, French, Spanish, German and Japanese.
Here’s part of the official explanation:
Our beta testing identified an issue with a small set of device drivers. These drivers do not follow our guidelines for driver installation and as a result, some beta participants who were using Windows Vista and updated to Service Pack 1 reported issues with these devices. Because the issue was with the way the drivers were installed and not the drivers themselves, the solution was simply to reinstall the drivers. While this worked fine for our more technical beta testers, we want to deliver a better experience for customers as we make the update broadly available.
That sounds good but I’ll be waiting for Windows 7 instead

Man, that means we’re all going to have to get more RAM for the upgrade… I was thinking another 2gigs should cover it newly needed resources.
