Windows blinds is a great application to skin your desktop for free.
I have also used Talisman (http://www.lighttek.com/talisman.htm) which although not free has thousands of different and brilliant designs, and you can configure everything on it. There is a free trial.

I want one with a plasma beam weapon so I can shoot the icons instead of clicking for extra excitement! I want my icons to bleed and scream when they’re blasted…haha
