Firefox 3 Beta 2 Released
![[Firefox 3 Beta 2 Welcome Page]](http://www.brownbaron.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/12/ff3beta2_welcome.png)
Sporting a new start page with a retro robot, Firefox 3 Beta 2 has been released. The first thing I noticed after installing was that only 3 of my extensions worked (StumbleUpon Toolbar, Fission, ReminderFox). It seems I’m destined to wait for the final version.
The next thing anyone will notice is that when you start typing a URL on the address bar, a drop down will display the latest headlines below the listed sites. This is a great feature that can also be found in the latest version of Opera.
The new additions that weren’t in the first beta include:
- Improved security features such as: protection from cross-site JSON data leaks, tighter restrictions on site-specific content using effective TLD service, better presentation of website identity and security, malware protection, stricter SSL error pages, anti-virus integration in the download manager, version checking for insecure plugins.
- Improved ease of use through: better password management, easier add-on installation, new download manager with resumable downloading, full page zoom, animated tab strip, and better integration with Windows Vista, Mac OS X and Linux.
- Richer personalization through: one-click bookmarking, smart bookmark folders, location bar that matches against your history and bookmarks for URLs and page titles, ability to register web applications as protocol handlers, and better customization of download actions for file types.
- Improved platform features such as: new graphics and font rendering architecture, JavaScript 1.8, major changes to the HTML rendering engine to provide better CSS, float-, and table layout support, native web page form controls, colour profile management, and offline application support.
- Performance improvements such as: better data reliability for user profiles, architectural improvements to speed up page rendering, over 330 memory leak fixes, a new XPCOM cycle collector to reduce entire classes of leaks, and reductions in the memory footprint.
One thing that I noticed while testing the new beta, is that every time I load a new page, Firefox would stop for more than 5 seconds (memory usage spiking through the roof) before continuing.
The beta 3 release is expected in February 2008.

That’s a very cool screenshot! I use Opera and Firefox. I like they are making it more personalized. I use 1psswd for all my passwords. It creates complicated passwords so I don’t have to and the beauty of it is that it remembers them whereas I at times [ahem] forget them.

Happy holidays Baron
I look forward to the new firefox…I’m sure they’ll have those kinks worked out before the final release.
I think that it’s nice to have Mozilla…they are in the business of helping people have a great free browser…I have to respect that

@Jamaipanese:

Me too buddy
@Aseem:
I tired it again and it still stops for more than 5 seconds each time a new tab or page is loaded. I wonder if everyone who installed it is experiencing that.
@Opal:
Haha I always forget them
@Manav:
We just might
@David:
They say that they’ve reduced the problem with memory usage. I hope it’s true.
@Bobby:
It’s great to see you!! I hope you’re right
@K:
