New MSN Messenger Trojan Making The Rounds
A new MSN Messenger trojan is rapidly growing a botnet by the hundreds. The trojan is being spread through MSN Messenger by posing as image files which usually come from users’ acquaintances or contact list.
The trojan sends itself as a double extension executable file. An example of this is DSC0013.jpg.exe . While veteran internet users are likely to notice the ‘.exe’ extension and ignore the file, more often than not, users who are in a hurry or multi-tasking will open the file since it came from a friend.
The trojan will steal your passwords, spread the infection, and deliver spam.
Don’t forget to look at all files sent to you and scan them before you open it. It may take a little extra time, but it will save you from a lot of headache.
High five to Lisa Vaas.
