How To Change Windows Explorer Default To Open A Different Folder

By default, Windows Explorer goes to your “My Documents” folder every time you open it. If you’re like me, you want to be able to set to it to open a different folder.

Here’s a quick and easy way to change the default folder that Windows Explorer opens.

Click on the ‘Start’ button. Go to Programs. Go to Accessories. Right-click on Windows Explorer and select ‘Properties’.

Clicking on ‘Properties’ will open a window similar to this one. This is where we’ll edit the default properties of Windows Explorer.

Take a look at the highlighted part, that’s what we’ll change. Let’s say you wanted Windows Explorer to open your ‘downloads’ folder every time you started it.

In the Target field, enter:
c:\windows\explorer.exe /n,/e,c:\Downloads

Click ‘Apply’ then ‘Ok’ and you’re finished.

You can set any folder or subfolder in any drive to be the default for Windows Explorer.
