Facebook Launches Ad Platform And 100,000 New Corporate Pages

Facebook LogoFacebook has announced a new advertising system designed to allow corporations to reach its social network of 50 million users with targeted advertising. Over 60 corporations including Coca Cola Co., Verizon Communications Inc., Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc., and CBS Corp., have signed up to use the new Facebook advertising platform.

Facebook founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, announced that Facebook ads will consist of three parts.

The first part allows corporations to create their own pages complete with videos, photos, music, and third party applications to help businesses connect with their target market. The second part includes spreading of marketing messages through Facebook ads. The third and last part includes a system for corporations to gauge relevant user activity on the site by providing marketers with metrics on ad performance with user activity and demographics.

Zuckerberg mentioned in his statement,

“Social actions are powerful because they act as trusted referrals and reinforce the fact that people influence people.

It’s no longer just about messages that are broadcasted out by companies, but increasingly about information that is shared between friends. So we set out to use these social actions to build a new kind of ad system.”

It’s a great social networking tool and I’ve been able to reconnect with some of my old buddies that was good just with one of them did not find me, lol.
I logged on last evening but I didn’t see any pop ups not you have me curious what they will be doing. I guess that means I have another site to visit. Gee thanks Brown Baron.

In all seriousness when I logged on last evening I did notice that I received an invite to be part of a real cool community. That was sent to me by one of my blogging buddies so that is very cool! I would not have logged on if I did not see this post so I guess you get a “real thanks for posting smiley.

I’m not sure how I feel about this new move by Facebook. With corporate money flowing through, how is the privacy going to be affected? But I guess if you’re posting your life story on Facebook you don’t have much expectation of privacy in the first place.

Each day those people at facebook do something new! As much as I don’t use facebook, I love it for the possibilities and opportunities.
