Splashup: Free Online Photo Editor
For those of you looking for an online image editor with more features, I’ve got just the thing. Splashup is a free online photo editor and managing tool that runs on all browsers. This isn’t really a new service, but its features and ease of use make it one of the best.
Some of Splashup’s features include layers, brushes, layer effects, and filters. In fact, it’s like a lite version of Photoshop.
The flash-based photo editor opens in a new window. Photoshop users will be familiar with the interface and tools.
You can open photos stored on your computer, from Flickr, from Facebook, Picassa, or any url you specify. Splashup even has its own file format so you can save your work in progress.
As a free online photo editor, Splashup packs quite a punch.

This one looks pretty interesting. I’m not normally a very big graphics person (some of the PC games that I play date back to the 1990’s or earlier), but now that I have a blog, I have been trying to incorporate images into it a little more in order to break up big blocks of text and improve the aesthetics.
When dealing with these images, I have often found that I need to crop, resize, or otherwise alter them slightly in order to make it fit into the post in a way that isn’t too awkward. It looks like the Splashup program might be useful for this, so I will check it out later.
By the way, does anyone know of any open source image sites- in other words, sites that have images that we can freely use for our blog posts without exposing us to possible legal problems? Ever since I started trying to incorporate images into my posts, I have been having some difficulty finding appropriate images to use that are not already copyrighted.

You could try http://www.bluevertigo.com.ar/bluevertigo.htm or one of my favorites is http://www.sxc.hu/index.phtml. I’m not saying everything’s completely free, but practically every photo I’ve needed hasn’t come with strings attached.

Thank you for the links. Although these sites do have a few commercial offerings, they have a lot of free stuff too, so this should substantially add to my available image collection.

Thanks for this, never heard about it before seeing it here and I have a mate who’s been asking about using photoshop (new camera for xmas). They’re a student so this could be a very much cheaper alternative. Think I may take it for a test drive and write about it on my blog. Cheers
