CommentLuv WP Plugin: Give Your Commenters More Love
Andy Bailey’s CommentLuv Plugin is another way of giving love to your commenters. The plugin visits the feeds of your commenters if they have a blog and attempt to scrape the last post they made and display it under their comment.
If you’re looking to encourage more people to comment on your blog or just want to show more appreciation for your community, this plugin is a good choice. For those who are worried about getting spammy comments, you can always delete those anyway heh.
Here’s a sample of how it looks:

It’s all about love … link love
.
Update:
For those commenters whose feeds don’t show, here’s what you do. At the end of your comment, type this: [feed]your feed url[ /feed] - no space between [ and /
Thanks for the solution Andy!

I just installed it. It seems like a nice way of thanking commenters

You are correct Brown… the commentors will feel enlightened…

My readers seem to like it and a few have installed it on their blogs. That comment looks familiar.
I think I saw it someplace now where on earth could that have been?
Weird but I was actually excited that some people actually were talking about detox,. It does not take much to make me happy.

This is a good idea, but I would prefer to have a widget of sorts such as “Recent blog posts by commenters” for the whole blog. I suppose it could be done manually.
Whichever, I’m glad to see you added it.

thanks for the mention of my plugin!
I had a look at Marks site to see why is authori-tay wasn’t being recognized, his site took a long time to load so it’s possible the script timed out.
one way to do it is enclose the feedburner link in square brackets [ feed] feed url [ /feed] (no space between the open square bracket and the word feed or /feed) at the end of the comment, I’ll try it here with marks feedburner url to see if it works…

October 17th, 2007 19:36
@Brown Baron: Well, that’s not exactly what I want. I’d rather be able to pick the blogs.
Also, it apparently is only the latest post at the time the comment is written, thus lending it to be a tad bit confusing.

@Andy: Dude! You’re awesome! Not only did you take the time to say thanks to my buddy Baron, but you also helped me. Double kudos to you sir!
I’ve been suspicious about the load time on my blog’s feed. I thought it was my host at first, but since I moved hosts recently, it appears to be unrelated.
October 17th, 2007 22:50
@Madhur:
I’m sure a lot of people will appreciate the info.

You’re right buddy.
@Andy:
Thanks for the solution
@Jake:
That’s exactly what I’ve been saying about the blogrush widget. If it gave people the option of choosing specific blogs to feature, it would be a killer
@Mark:
I wonder what’s causing your site to load a little slow buddy.
October 18th, 2007 13:12
Interesting concept, but does it take extra time to fetch the entry from feeds?

Brown, perhaps a line spacing could be inserted after the comment but before the ‘…’s last post’ statement so that it’ll look more spacious here.

You’re right. I’ll see what I can do

By the way, I know this isn’t exactly on topic (still about improvements in the comments area!), but how do I get my avatar on here? I have Gravatar, MyBlogLog, and BlogCatalog. In fact, you can see my K (KDE) logo on the both of the widgets.

Wow, I have seen thi on some peoples blogs and was wondering exactly what it was.
Very cool, hope it works for me!
October 22nd, 2007 14:17
@Forest:
Your latest post isn’t showing up. Might be because of some delay when accessing your feed.
December 27th, 2007 21:15
thanks for the great feedback for CommentLuv. I have updated the code now so it is at version 0.998.
I have added the option of a checkbox to below the form if a user doesn’t want their last blog post shown, also I’ve cleaned up the code so it can get a lot more peoples feeds than before. Also, I’ve added in some function that kicks in if a users hosting doesn’t support Curl.
It’s easier to change the message now by editing the identified bit in the source code (just below the changelog).
The next version will integrate AJAX into the equation so it scrapes the last post while the user is typing their comment which should make it almost transparent to use.
Once that’s done, I’ll add some code to show a Cliq or BR style widget on the sidebar so you can display the same thing but just for your commenters…
Thanks for using the CommentLuv plugin BB!

Interesting!
CommentLuv helps you reward your commentators by separating their name from their keywords in the link to their site. This gives them improved anchor text, which can help their site rank higher in the search engine results.
You can now leave a comment with your name as well as a keyword of your choice here and get a PR5 link back to your site! How cool is that? People pay big bucks for that and all you have to do is comment here.
