eBay Goes Social
eBay has just launched its new feature called eBay Neighborhoods. The new feature gives eBay members a chance to join groups, rate and review products, leave comments, and upload photos.

Members can’t create their own groups though, they have to choose from one of the 600 premade groups created by eBay. Not too social eh? Other familiar social features like tag clouds and recommendations are present.
This new feature is part of the online auction giant’s redesign that’s scheduled to roll out over the coming months. Other features that will be added are real-time auction monitors, one-click bidding, and streamlined checkout.

Ugh. What does this mean for the state of the world if eBay has gone social?

@Kyle:
Haha my first reaction was, “Are you serious?” I think eBay is a little confused

Hmm actually they’ve been social for a while. They have “community forums”. I recently started checking ot the seller forum just because I wanted to gain tips on selling a few items. I was surprised how social those forums were so I imagine Ebay knows that and decided to capitalize on it. I personally think that was a very smart move on their part, lol.

@Opal:
You know I think that this might actually be better than their message boards.

I would hope so! A lot of fighting went on there. Those forums weren’t moderated but it was interesting to see that the “cooler heads” hung out there to chat. I got the info I needed and vacated. It seemed that a fight would break out every day on at least one thread.

Now I understand why eBay did it. This should be a great help. Now I understand why you can’t create your own group too. Pretty smart move I agree.

That’s crazy - I think I will stick to blogging to socialize online.

I was just about to say the same thing B.B. It reminded me of a forum I used to go to…. It was a disaster…..

I keep hearing about all of these people making a living selling on Ebay. I’ve got to go check all of this stuff out. Sounds interesting.

@Christy:
One of my friends makes his living off eBay. He scours garage sales and antique shops for items. He then cleans them and sells them. He’s got a house in NY and Florida.

Oh wow, that sounds fun!! I may need to quit blogging and become an Ebay seller..hehe..

@Christy:
What’s good about it is .. you don’t need a good pagerank for that
