Digg Goes Social

Popular news aggregation site, Digg has added more social features in the hopes of giving the service more depth than what it’s commonly used for, - digging and burying. Users are now able to leave “shouts” on other members’ profile pages, and a sharing function similar to that of Facebook’s has been added. Users can now use their friends list as a content filter if they want to get news only from that group instead of from the whole community.

Privacy settings let users decide what they want to display to the whole community or their friends. Other features that will be added in the coming months are a dedicated images section, customized email alerts, revamped comments, and a recommendations engine.

While the new features certainly give Digg a more social feel, StumbleUpon remains my favorite. Much better crowd :grin: .

    A very nice feature. Digg is trying its best to catch up with StumbleUpon.

    @Haris:
    It sure looks like it. I’m betting on SU though hehe

    That is pretty cool, but Digg can’t beat SU’s toolbar! That thing rocks and its so easy to just see friends voted sites and stuff with StumbleUpon. I still do vote on Digg, it is just not as easy as current SU. I vote for SU too!

    I definitely agree with that last statement Brown. :smile: I’ve been with Digg a long, long time, but I only just recently joined StumbleUpon (because I’M A MORON! :shock: ). SU is far superior in my opinion. So much so that I’ve pretty much lost all interest with Digg. SU is officially my new home. :cool:

    I agree with both you and Aaron. SU is by far better. You feel so much closer to the people on SU. Digg has that cold industrial feel, and makes me feel like a nobody when I’m using it. I don’t like that feeling. :smile:

    That’s exactly right Bobby! :smile:

    @GnomeyNewt:
    SU is the king in my opinion. Sure Digg can bring in the most traffic short term, but SU brings in quality traffic hehe.

    @Aaron:
    Better late than never buddy lol

    @Bobby:
    Digg is more about burying stories rather than trying to bring interesting articles to light. It may be the most popular, but SU has the better community :grin:
