Resurrecting Netscape Social

Propeller Logo

A glimmer of hope remains for users of Netscape’s endangered social portal. Tom Drapeau has just announced on the Netscape blog, that the new social portal will be moved to www.propeller.com (not live as of this writing) .

As you can see from the new logo, Propeller seems to be going for the 2.0 look. We can only guess that the interface for the new portal will have the same look and feel.

Drapeau stated on the Netscape blog:

The Netscape social news experience that you are currently using today will be migrated and revealed soon at http://www.propeller.com/. We’re working hard behind the scenes to ensure a smooth transition before we officially launch at this new destination.

How many of you were waiting for this?

Looking at the number of people who commented on this post, I’d say NOT MANY including myself! Ha ha.

It’s funny - At work I heard that we were working on something in partnership with Netscape and I was like, “Wait what? Netscape still exists and has viewers? Are they making a new version of Netscape Navigator?!” I didn’t even know.

I am happy that they are not getting rid of it altogether - I anticipated them doing away with the social news site for a while. I was not a big user of Netscape social news, but I did frequent it on occasion. I look forward to seeing what “Propeller” has to offer.
