Say Goodbye To Netscape Social

netscape_social.png

It’s official. Netscape has announced that they’re going back to providing mainstream news. In fact, the new site is already up. The new portal can be found at netscape.aol.com . Traffic to the current site will be redirected to the new portal. The social news site is still up as of this writing and stories are still being submitted and voted on.

Tom Drapeau posted on Netscape’s official blog:

We received some feedback that people really do associate the Netscape brand with providing mainstream news that is editorially controlled. In fact, we specifically heard that our users do have a desire for a social news experience, but simply didn’t expect to find it on Netscape.com.

Sounds like a spin job to me. TechCrunch seems to think so too.

The news portal is up, and Netscape has yet to announce specific plans for their social news site. Don’t hold your breath  .
