VirtualBox: Free Alternative To VMWare
If you’ve ever run a virtual machine, you know that Microsoft’s Virtual PC is free but limited, and that VMWare is just too expensive.
VirtualBox is a free professional application for creating and running virtual machines on your computer. The application comes with the best features of VMWare and Virtual PC like shared folders between guest and host, full SDK and command-line control options, USB device emulation, etc.

If you’re interested in testing out different operating systems or running older versions of Windows, this free application is what you need. Support for 64 bit operating systems, and Mac OSX is still under development.
VirtualBox runs on Windows (NT 4.0, 2000, XP, Server 2003, Vista), DOS/Windows 3.x, Linux (2.4 and 2.6), and OpenBSD.

I’ve been using VirtualBox for a few months now. I love it. It doesn’t work with the more obscure stuff, such as ReactOS, but its great for testing Linux distros and such.

Yes, vmware is far too expensive for me and they keep jacking up their prices. I liked Parallels more anyway. I’ll give this one a try because I love to fiddle around with new stuff

the only thing that i don’t love about vm software is that it uses too much RAM. what about this freeware?

@Shankar:
You’re welcome buddy!
@techmalaya:
Memory requirements are the same. You’ll need enough memory to run whatever you plan on installing, plus enough memory for your original OS.
