GPay: New SMS Payment System By Google
Google has just published a new patent that seems to suggest the search engine giant’s intention of implementing a payment system for mobile phones. While SMS payment systems are not entirely new, Google’s GPay is interesting because it could possibly be an exclusive service to the GPhone.
An excerpt from the patent states:
The payment process may occur through the simple composition by the payor of a text message that includes identifying information for the payee and an amount of the payment. The message may then be sent to a payment processing system, which may debit an account of the payor (i.e., reduce it in value), credit an account of the payee (i.e., increase it in value, such as monetary value), and notify either or both of the payor or the payee that the money has been transferred.
So what’s next? A GBank? What’s your guess?

It’s going to be a GWorld someday. Google is trying to make itself indispensable in all areas of the online experience - soon “the internet” will mean Google.

I would be nervous to pay anything via my cell phone. Google or not, someone will figure a way to steal my $$.
