Review: DefenseWall HIPS
This is a sponsored post.
Using a regularly updated antivirus and spyware scanner doesn’t mean that you get 100% protection. Virus and trojan definitions are always a step behind. So what do you do to increase the level of protection for your computer? Using a heuristic scanner is one possible solution, but some people would rather not deal with the amount of false positives that heuristic scanners have.
DefenseWall HIPS (Host Intrusion Prevention System) by SoftSphere is a good complement to your antivirus program. The program uses sandboxing and virtualization technology to ensure that no malicious software infects your computer.
Sandboxing and Virtualization
DefenseWall HIPS categorizes all applications as “Trusted” and “Untrusted”. Applications categorized as untrusted run in a virtual zone with no way of modifying critical system files and parameters. If you happen to run an application that contains malware, nothing will happen to your computer since the program is running in a virtual zone. A notification will alert you of any malicious program in the virtual zone and you can terminate it with just one click. Safe and easy.

DefenseWall HIPS in partnership with your antivirus utility
Think of DefenseWall as your first line of defense. Used properly, the program will be able to protect your computer from known and unknown trojans, rootkits, keyloggers, spyware, etc. Your antivirus application will be your backup. Running the two together gives you a very high level of protection.

Conclusion
The program uses a small amount of resources and runs quietly in the background. Sandboxing is a great way of isolating potentially malicious software. For those who are looking for added protection, DefenseWall HIPS is a good partner to any antivirus utility.
A fully functional trial version is available for download.

On my windows pc’s I have been using System Suite by V-com for five years. I buy the new one each year, it’s around $20.00 but in my opinion pales Norton or virtually any compeditor. My days of freeware firewalls are over

DefenseWall HIPS is a strong barrier between you and malicious software (spyware, adware, keylogers, rootkits and viruses). You can now allow yourself safe browsing, open any e-mail attachments and install new software - DefenseWall HIPS gives you new vector of safety and freedom in one easy to use package. Annoying popups not included.

We need all the protection we can get nowadays, and I’ve heard good reports about DefenseWall HIPS although I haven’t tested it myself.
My only concern would be how much it slowed a computer down by, particularly as I assume it runs in tandem with other utilities.
