Microsoft To Help NASA Create 3D Space Shuttle Tour

Microsoft is teaming up with NASA to produce a 3D photographic tour of the Endeavour
space shuttle. The 3D tour will be available to users before the shuttle launches this week. The exhibit will be using Microsoft Photosynth to display a three dimensional environment with views of Endeavour on the launch pad, interior, and the surrounding area of the Vehicle Assembly Building.
If you’re interested in viewing the exhibit, you’ll need to download the image viewer from the link I provided above. The viewer only works on Windows XP and Vista. If you don’t feel like installing anything, you can watch the preview video on Microsoft Labs.
Maybe they could use this technology to create 3D photographic tours of famous places. Since Photosynth uses images from normal SLR cameras, this shouldn’t be all that expensive to do.
High five to Scott Gilbertson.

Hi Jeff, thanks for pointing that out!

That’s strange, the video works fine for me

Looks great

Now if only they could manage to make it so that I may enjoy the feeling of weightlessness at home, then it won’t matter if I win that lunar voyage. That’s pretty cool. I was one of those kids that had a telescope and dreamed of being an astronaut.

MS and NASA working together….weird combination I didn’t expect anything like this to ever happen.

@Cristian:

It does look great. I’d like to see this applied to more places too.
@Danielle:
Zero grav at home sounds like fun!
@Shaun:
MS is a little scared of Google. We’ll be seeing them partnering with more people I bet

I`m also not surprised about NS going in lot of joint-ventures.
As about lunar trip, no gravitation and stuff, I would preffer a teleporting machine for personal use, thank you, when you`ll deliver it ?

I’ve been waiting for a teleporter for the longest time. I’d probably still be late though haha
