I knew there was a reason for me to continue developing in Flash! Hmph. This is interesting news. Can't wait to see how it's finally implemented.

I wonder how relevant the ads will be in-game. Maybe developers will have to add keywords within the game.

Yeah, it wouldn't be good if your kid was playing an educational game and an adult ad shows up in between levels :shock:

It's going to be interesting to see how Google handle this.

First of all, to the best of my knowledge, Google have no previous experience with games.

Additionally, I want to know how the game experience will be affected by advertising.

I can see ways in which in-game advertising would work -- with strategy games, for example -- but there are going to be obvious limitations and maybe even problems with other types of games, such as action games.

It's worth mentioning that there are much better examples of in-game promotions, such as music and video, which lend themselves better to the interactive nature of any game...

Especially with the nature of flash games. The pace is fast. The only areas I can think of where the ads could be easily placed are at the start, in between levels, and at the end of the game.

Or as global variables passed to the flash movie on embed. I think that's how urls are often passed to flash movies that are ads.

They probably will. When this goes full swing, popular game portals will probably offer options of playing games with and without ads. For a fee of course.
If Google is able to display relevant ads in-game, we should make our own game portal too hehe.

Unfortunately Google disabled my Adsense claiming I had invalid clicks (clicking my own ads or having illegal software) I was a member for only 3 weeks, and they told me I can NEVER reapply EVER! You can try to overturn it, but they send you to a forum to do so! Less than 3% ever get a second chance and they aren't going to pay me my $12.00 either. They claim they don't have to explain anything to me and basically told me leave! I don't know what I did wrong, I barely knew how to use it. Apparently Google is above the law, they disabled John Chows account recently. Don't depend on it! I am switching to Yahoos new program :smile:

I'm curious to see how this will work.
I use Adsense I've made a whopping $70 in a little over five weeks. :lol:
I'll try not to spend it all in one place.

I made one illegal click, not intentionally, but I emailed them immediately. I received an email stating that they realize this happens occasionaly and to be careful.

I've been curious about Yahoo but haven't tried it out yet. I know you cannot have Yahoo and Google on the same page. I might test it on my static page.

I bet that $70 triples real soon :grin:
<br />
@Shankar:
Hehe the next step for Google is to put their ads on milk cartons, cereal boxes, and into the malls :lol:

I've not made much with adsense, but I've only just optimized my site. I wonder how this venture will turn out.

Has anyone had any luck with the new Referrals 2.0 system?

Yeah Referrals 2.0 basically puts adsense advertisements on your site, which don't work if they are clicked. Instead the user has to sign up/buy for whatever the advert was for.
