Dictionary.com Name Sells For $100 Million
The Answers Corporation has just announced that it has bought Lexico Publishing Group for $100 Million. Lexico runs Dictionary.com, Thesaurus.com, and Reference.com. Answers’ chief executive, Robert Rosenschein, said that they would earn more advertising revenue from Dictionary.com than Lexico did.
Rosenschein further stated:
“We are actually buying a business, It just happens to own a great domain.”
How much do you think your domain is worth?

It actually is all about the domain name! The company Dictionary could have a lame domain name, and not get where it is now.

Heh..I was just at dictionary.com a few minutes ago. It’s a pretty handy site. I don’t know about 100 million dollars handy, but lucky them

Great news! I’m using Dictionary.com and Thesaurus.com when writing my articles. But the default Google search bar seems to be a very effective dictionary tool for me. Noticed the definition link in the Google SERPs? I often use that too and it points to Answers.com.
I hope they won’t change Dictionary.com and Thesaurus.com’s content as they already are excellent.

@Grace:

It’s all about the domain yeah. How about “ShyBlogger.com”? hehehe
@listikal:
Answers.com is one of my regular stops
@Mike:
Give it a little time and you can sell Gummy for more
@Gabriel:
We probably won’t see a change in the content. Maybe a little change in the layout .. for better ad placement

Firefox does great as far as spelling is concerned, but I do like dictionary.com and use it whenever I want to know how to spell a word.
Using the calculators found in various places on the web, my domain is worth anywhere from a couple hundred to almost 10k.
