DVD Jon Bypasses iPhone Activation
Famous for breaking the CSS protection on DVDs, Jon Lech Johansen is at it again this time by figuring out how to bypass the iPhone’s activation process. He says that there are people who want to use the iPhone as an 8 gig iPod with WiFi capabilities without having to pay for a 2 year contract with AT&T.
Jon used Phone Activation Server v1.0 to bypass the registration process. Jon states:
Note that this application will not do anything unless you understand the magic numbers as well as add the hosts entry.
This means that all the iPhone’s functions will work, without phone capabilities. So what have you got? A $600 iPod
.
High five to Charlie Sorrel.

I wonder if alpine and dottie have something to do with this. Otherwise, they’ll remain useless.
