The iReply Movement Is Born
After reading a post by Mark from Me And My Drum which was related to Mike’s article on Ordinary Folk, the three of us decided to start the iReply movement. We were talking about how a lot of bloggers hardly respond to their commenters so this is basically a plea to bloggers to try and respond to people who leave comments on their blogs.
Why the heck for?
When people comment on your post, they’re acknowledging what you’ve written. Why not be polite and respond in kind? Heck, I’m shy and I still manage to respond to the people who are kind enough to comment on my posts. Not only does this encourage more comments, but it also helps in developing a community within your blog.
How do I join?
If you respond to your commenters regularly, then you’re already a member
. If you haven’t been responding to your commenters, try thanking them or saying “hi”. You’ll find that more and more people will participate because your blog has such a welcoming vibe.
Can I use that logo?
We’d be delighted if you did. I’d like to thank Mike for generously providing the logo.
It’s currently 4 am where I’m at so if I don’t respond right away that means I fell asleep.

July 1st, 2007 05:06
LOL. I didn’t want to say anything just yet, Mike, as I figured you just needed time to do that. I almost forgot myself!
Hey Baron, I’m making this reply with the little window created by that CoolIris extension. It’s like I’m in two places at once!
July 1st, 2007 06:29
Count me in. Minutes after this comment, I`ll have the image on my site too, pointed to this post.
July 1st, 2007 07:22

Cool one. I guess I’m a part of this movement naturally because I usually find myself replying to comments
. Will add this badge soon to my sidebar
July 1st, 2007 12:23
Have you created a community on Bumpzee? I’d join it!
I think I go overboard with the comment replying though…last guy who commented on my blog with some tips, I wrote him in essay email in response!
July 1st, 2007 12:56
@Shankar:

Always knew you were a member buddy
@Andy:
I haven’t looked at creating a Bumpzee community for iReply yet. It seems like a good idea though.
Essay reply? Hehe the guy must have been surprised
July 1st, 2007 14:18
Yes, I’ve always thought it’s just proper to reply to all comments. I feel so bad when a comment slips through my “radar” and I neglect to reply.
What I really want to do is add that widget that allows visitors to opt to receive replies via email so they know that I replied. This also encourages ongoing conversations through the comment section. I can’t find info on how to do this for blogger templates, though.
July 1st, 2007 14:23
@Manila Mom:
I know how you feel with the comments. When people take the time to comment on my post I feel like I just made a new friend hehe.
July 1st, 2007 15:47
I’m also in this movement already. I reply to almost all comments on my blog.

Thanks for the compliment! Welcome to the Community
July 22nd, 2007 23:00
It’s always nice when the admin/blogger responds to your comments. I used to reply to my comments, but then I had to turn unreigstered comments off as I got a ton of spam. Now my site is protected from spam, I have turned unregistered comments off and would respond, but no-one has commented yet!
July 22nd, 2007 23:22
@Tech Rant:
I’ll head over there
July 26th, 2007 12:21
this is a great idea… I will implement this as soon as possible in all of my blogs… I agree// responding to comments is a good gesture..

@Melo:
Thanks! Hope to see you again
July 29th, 2007 03:55
BB,
I know somewhere out there is a site/page that offers the IReply buttons in different colors. You wouldn’t by chance know where that is, would you.
I love the IReply movement and I always try to reply to my commentors. I mean, if they can take the time to stop in and leave me a message, I can surely find the time to thank them for it.
This is very cool.

@Mike:
I’m still confused. You mean we didn’t screw up?
August 23rd, 2007 06:50
Thank you for this movement. I came across your blog a couple of days ago from the revellian site. I liked the article that brought me to your site but quite frankly it was the “I Reply” icon that I remembered.
I have placed it on my site, with a “if you build it, they will come” sort of mentality. I probably have about 4 hits a day but one day there will be many more (I hope) and I will be sure to respond to them.
