Jet That Carries Passengers Into Space
Thinking of where to go for future vacations? How about 100 km into space? European company Astrium, has just unveiled a new jet designed for space tourism at a special VIP event in Paris.

The space jet is capable of landing and taking off from any airport. Once airborne, the jet can climb to 40 miles in 80 seconds. The jet’s propulsion system will then be shut down to allow the craft’s inertia to carry it over 60 miles more where passengers will experience zero gravity. Once in space, passengers will have 3 minutes to view the earth before the jet starts the trip back home.
Robert Lainé, chief technical officer of EADS Astrium, stated:
If development begins in 2008, a test flight would take place in 2011 and the first commercial flight would be possible by 2012
What if you could only afford half the fare? Will they take you up and leave you there?

Wow that’s neat. Sounds great but don’t think I’d have the guts to go on it, even if I could afford it. BTW- did you read about the baby monitor that was overhearing the going ons in space? I’m about to blog about it.

Really? That’s one powerful baby monitor! I’ll be checking out your post

That’s pretty neat! I think I’d want a lot longer than three minutes though. I imagine most passengers would take at least that long to acclimate zero gravity. I can hear it now…”Yeah the jerk that sat next to me freaked out the entire time and I couldn’t even get any pictures!”
Shine on,
Aaron

Yeah, I mean with how much that trip is going to cost, you’ll definitely want more than 3 minutes. When the space tours starts, do you think we’ll see a McDonald’s drive through for space jets?

That would be a wonderful ride anyway, I can’t wait till 2012

@Benedict:
I don’t think I can save enough for the fare by 2012

The might as well leave you there. At least you’d get to experience more than three minutes of space…sheesh
June 16th, 2007 15:26
That sounds cool and scary at the same time.

I don’t think I’d want to be one of the first people to try it
