Parallels Adds Support For Windows Games On Macs

ParallelsParallels Inc. has announced that it will add 3D graphics support to its virtualization software which will allow Mac users to play Windows-based pc games. Scheduled to launch within a few weeks, Desktop 3.0 for Mac will be able to run OpenGL and DirectX games in Windows virtual machines. Another new feature is the ‘SmartSelect’ option which basically lets users choose between a Mac OS X or Windows application to be the default handler for Windows or Mac files.

Here’s a screenshot of Quake 4 running on a Mac:

Now that I’m on Intel with my MacBook Pro, at some point, I’ll be getting my hands on a copy of Parallels and a copy of Windows XP or Vista.

I’m currently running Guest PC on my G5, but that’s a G5, and I prefer an Intel-native ‘emulator’ which will run, well .. natively…
