MyBlogLog’s Upcoming Changes

MyBlogLog

Recently hired MyBlogLog Community Manager Robyn Tippins talked about Yahoo’s planned changes for the service at SOBcon over the weekend. Some of the more important changes that were mentioned include:

  • The service will be re-branded. No mention of what the new brand name will be or when the changes will happen.
  • Complete site redesign for MyBlogLog.
  • An upgraded widget.
  • Offensive avatars will be removed.
  • An option to turn off your presence for certain sites you visit.

I’m wondering if they’ll add an option of labeling certain messages as spam, or giving users the option of ignoring messages from specific members.

What features would you like to see added or removed?

    that would be so nice to see those “offensive” ones taken off. I wouldn’t mind seeing who updates either. Maybe something appear in my screen to tell me such and such and a link. :) That’s probably stretching it though.

    I love MBL. It’ll be interesting to see what the changes with the widget are. They definitely could use a site redesign. I’m looking forward to that :smile:

    @Homemom3:
    That sounds like a great feature to me. We can always hope :grin:

    @Mike:
    Yeah I’m interested in seeing what the change to the widget will be too. I wonder if they’ll change the name.

    I like the sound of a widjet upgrade. It would be nice if it was easier to customize. Having maybe a preview show up on the options screen, which updates as you make changes? In some ways its a shame all the big names buy up anything that’s doing well online.

    What do you think?

    @Tom:
    Having more customization options for the widget would be a blessing. A live preview sounds good to me.

    I like the idea of hiding your presence, and I really hope that MyBlogLog (or whatever it becomes) continues to be a place to link one blogger to another. There’s no CHANCE I’d find any of these sites on my own!

    I think it would be nice to have more organization for my communities. For example, I would like to be able to categorize them by my own custom groups. I would also like to have mybloglog be a portal where I can come and see a list (based on RSS feeds or however it needs to be done) of all the recent posts by members in my communities (able to be sorted like above). This would save me the trouble of digging through layers of mybloglog that I have to do now (right now, it’s faster for me to use bookmarks, which renders mybloglog useless for anything other than discovery).

    The site is very “Web 1.0″. I think it is one of the best ways of getting your name out there and finding other great Tech blogs. Heck, that’s how I found you Baron. Good post, and thanks for the updates.

    @Bush:
    I agree. MyBlogLog’s greatest feature is helping bloggers find other bloggers easily.

    @Invest Wisely:
    Being able to categorize your community members sounds like something I’d like to have.

    @listikal:
    That’s true, MyBlogLog is one of the best ways to announce your blog. It helped me discover a lot of blogs I wouldn’t have found on my own. I think that’s how I found you too :grin:

    I gotta totally agree with @Invest Wisely, that would be a splendid way to organize stuff.

    I’m happy to have joined this community.

    Keep it going!
