MySpace Adds News Ranking Feature
Later today, MySpace will launch it’s new service called MySpace News that will search the web for news stories and give users the ability to rate them. This sounds like an effort to get MySpace users to stay on the site longer thus giving advertisers a direct way to communicate with the users.
This service will add a social element to traditional news by giving users the ability to choose what becomes the top news on MySpace. Sounds like Digg right? Too bad I don’t use MySpace heh.

it has lots of potential because of the large myspace user base (if they do it right)

You would have thought after so many months, they would have improved this feature or add some new “unique” features. Nope.. but I’ve seen a decrease in spam which is always good

I would have to say, months after they launched it now, it doesn’t seem to be a big success like so many anticipated. I’m sure it pulls in some uniques, but they just end up spreading themselves out too thin and in too many places. They need to start coming out with more innovative ideas, besides an app network. Then I’ll return back to the site.

The Myspace News add-on really seems to have flopped. Personally, I think sites like Digg, Technorati, etc. do a much better job and have more interesting news than Myspace will ever have. Even to this day the news idea hasn’t really taken off much for them….the top stories on the news page have only 2 votes each which tells me probably few people bother to look at the news page or vote for any stories. Like another commenter mentioned Myspace’s time would have been developing innovative addons that worked alongside their social networking system.
