AllPeers: File Sharing Right Inside Your Browser
AllPeers is a Firefox addon that lets you choose files and folders for sharing and specify who gets access to those files. There are no resctrictions on the type of files you can share and all communication between you and your friends are encrypted using industry standard SSL. Users can view any media file they receive from their friends right inside the browser. Once you’ve setup the files you want to share just send a message to your friends to let them know.

couldn’t viruses get spread this way?

Yes it could. We just need to be careful who we accept files from and always keep our antivirus tool updated.
