YouTube Allows Presidential Candidates To Post Own Videos

On Wednesday, candidates from both parties will get one week to participate in a video discussion in YouTube’s “You Choose ‘08 Spotlight. The candidates will answer former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney’s question: “What do you believe is America’s single greatest challenge and what would you do to address it?” YouTube watchers are encouraged to post their own video replies.

This seems like the next step for the candidates after adding their profile pages on social networking sites such as MySpace and Facebook.

They’re starting to do that over here now.

I saw the other day here in the UK that Tony Blair has opened a Labour Party Youtube channel to communicate with their supporters and voters - I wonder how many of them are left?? :)

The great thing is that these uTube videos are unregulated. Once again, ingenuity proves that money will find a way into campaigns. TV stations have to offer special rates to political advertisers. I wonder if Internet political regulation is next. It is just becoming too powerful to ignore.

I think this is great. It gives all candidates, whether they’re richly funded (like Clinton) or not, an opportunity to get their message out to the masses on equal terms. Of course, the production value that each candidate puts into/spends on their video could make a difference in how their message is perceived.
