Famster: The New MySpace For The Family

FamsterComing out of public beta just last month, Famster is now fully functional and poised to take a big bite out of MySpace’s market. Famster is a closed-networking site which is geared towards families who want to use something like MySpace but with more controls and features.

The first feature that caught my eye was their Sex Offender Alert List. It’s regularly updated and shows not only the names but also the current addresses of these people. If one moved into your area you’d see it on Famster’s alert list. Pretty good huh?

You can create your family tree with complete details of family members and their pictures. They also have a collection of recipes that you can access and add to.

Famster also lets you create custom avatars for you and your family. There’s a lot of details you can customize like faces, shoes, clothes, etc.

Storage won’t be a problem since you get 1 gig of space for your video uploads and another gig for your documents and other types of data.

Famster also has its own Instant Messenger. Parents can set who their children are allowed to chat with in advance and even monitor all their kids’ chat sessions.

Standard features like blogs, guestbooks, lists, address books, scrapbooks, file cabinet, news center, links, and email are all included.

While a lot of teenagers may not like the security features or parental controls that Famster offers, parents who want to have their own family networking site will surely appreciate Famster’s arrival.
